Following the success of the Get Wired conference of 2013, we are following up with a one day conference in
Bolney, West Sussex.  This will be an excellent opportunity to hear about the latest developments in EMF, Electrosmog and Electrosensitivity science and to meet others who are concerned with this issue.

The venue for Get Wired 2015 is the Rawson Hall in Bolney, West Sussex.

For delegates that are ES: The venue has been selected for its low electrosmog levels and further tailored to create a low electrosmog environment.

The facility benefits from a very low level of EMF pollution with no Wi-Fi or DECT cordless phones present.  We will be ensuring that any cell phones and other mobile equipment will be switchedoff during the event.  The nearest cell tower is 600 meters away and cannot be detected with an Acoustimeter. There is no wifi nor cordless phones. The lighting will be modified to reduce electrosmog. All mobile phones must be switched off.

The Audio-visual equipment will all be wired (no radio microphones) and kept to a minimum – we will have a laptop, a projector and 4 wired speakers connected to 2 wired microphones. There will be 2 video cameras recording the event. We will reserve seating for delegates who wish to keep away from the electronics.

We hope to offer an ES recovery area for those who find travelling a problem.

EMF Surveys

One of the services our company Beneficial Environments provides is EMF Surveys.

We conduct EMF surveys in homes and offices in areas used for sleeping, working and resting. we check the levels of electromagnetic fields and compare them with those recommended by the Institute of Building Biology, Stetzer Electric and others.

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity

A very well researched book on EHS was published in 2013 called Electromagnetic Sensitivity and Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity – A Summary by Michael Bevington.

He writes

Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity is categorised as a multisymptomatic ‘el-allergy’ in the Nordic classification of 2000 (R.68.8). Its symptoms are ‘certainly real’ and it can be a ‘disabling condition’ (W.H.O., 2005). It was first recorded in the mid 20th Century as an occupational illness, but it has now spread into the general population through environmental exposure from increasing levels of electro-magnetic fields and radiation.

Wifi Radiation Health Risks

The International Agency for Research on Cancer, part of the United Nations’ World Health Organization, has classified Radio Frequency Electro Magnetic Fields (RF/EMF) as Class 2b carcinogens – possibly carcinogenic to humans.

The EMF risks to health are wide ranging.

A large number of studies*** list symptoms from mobile phones and masts, radio and TV masts, and power lines: which affect our auditory, cardiovascular, cognitive, dermatological, emotional, gastrointestinal, genito-urinary, musculoskeletal, neurological, opthalmologic, physiological and respiratory systems.

Dirty Electricity – Samuel Milham, MD, MPH

Dirty Electricity is high-frequency voltage transients on the mains supply. It is generated by any device that interrupts current flow. When buildings were first electrified the devices which drew power were simply; filament light bulbs, single bar heaters etc. These days we have dimmer switches, compact fluorescent bulbs, power supplies/chargers, TVs, computers etc.

Transients are created when current is repeatedly interrupted. This manipulation of current creates a wildly fluctuating and potentially EMF that not only radiates into the immediate environment but can also back up along the wiring.

Samuel Milham, MD, MPH is the scientist who first alerted the world about the frightening link between occupational exposure to electromagnetic fields and human disease.

Dirty Electricity – Samuel Milham, MD, MPH takes readers through his early years and education, following the twisting path that led to his discovery that most of the twentieth century diseases of civilization, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and suicide, are caused by electromagnetic field exposure.

He is a physician-epidemiologist specializing in public health. He has more than one hundred scientific publications, many dealing with the health effects of electricity. In 1997, Dr. Milham was awarded the Ramazzini prize for pioneering work describing the occupational cancer risks of electromagnetic fields.

Milham’s book “Dirty Electricity – Electrification and the Diseases of Civilization” (2nd Edition, iUniverse 2010, 2012) is strongly recommended.

Building Biology Design

We humans sleep for a third of our lives, the time when our bodies repair and restore our cells. But studies show that we now have an epidemic of poor sleep—a third of the UK population says they have interrupted and poor-quality sleep. Many have attributed one cause of poor sleep to electrosmog, but the lack of sleep also prevents us from recovering from the damaging daily dose of electrosmog and so encourages the buildup of electrosensitivity along with its plethora of symptoms.

This means it’s important to reduce your dosage of electromagnetic pollution to levels where your body can recover to not only ease the debilitating symptoms of electrosensitivity, but also to prevent the development of electrosensitivity in the future.

The SMB-2015 Building Biology design & evaluation guidelines for Sleeping Areas are important in setting a standard for designing sleeping areas associated with long-term risks and a most sensitive window of opportunity for regeneration.

The set of guidelines are only meant as a guide but any risk reduction is worth aiming at.
