The Important SBM Building Biology Standards, updated for 2015 have now been translated and are available in the UK for the first time here.

Building Biology (or Baubiologie) is a field of building science investigating the indoor living environment for a variety of irritants.

Important areas of building biology are building materials and processes, electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and radiation (EMR) and indoor air quality (IAQ).

Beneficial Environments uses these standards when surveying and designing low electrosmog environments.

Wifi Health Risks

Wireless Internet routers or Wi-Fi modems emit electromagnetic radiation in the low Gigahertz frequency range. We can be exposed to these EMFs almost 24×7 at work and in our homes.

To reduce any potential Wifi health risks associated with long term exposure to these EMFs you can do several things:

  • Switch off your Wi-Fi modem at night or when not in use
  • Disable wireless on your laptop and/or computer and use wired Ethernet to your modem for an Internet connection
  • Take frequent breaks away from the irradiated area

If you can still see other people’s Wi-Fi routers you may want to consider shielding to protect you and your family.

There is a growing body of scientific research on the biological effects of EMF on multi-cellular organisms and the EMF Health Effects. It is not rocket science to understand that those biological effects can adversely affect your health. Some EMFs are beneficial to your health, others positively harmful (particularly over time).

To reduce the EMF health effects, there are a number of strategies which can be employed. Starting with changes to the way you use technology and the use of EMF protection and shielding.



Electrosmog is the invisible electromagnetic radiation resulting from the use of both wireless technology and mains electricity.

The most common sources of wireless electrosmog are: WiFi, smartphones/mobile/cell-phones, phone masts/towers, cordless phones, laptops etc.

Mobile phones are microwave transmitters.

Modern day smartphones have about 5 transmitters which all emit radiation.

When not using certain functions of your cell phone e.g. Bluetooth, WiFi, Data (3G-4G), these can and should be disabled, and the phones should never be kept close to your skin (manufacturers recommend a minimum of 15mm).

The phone should be used on speaker or better still through the use of an airtube headset.

WiFi operates at a range of frequencies but mainly in the 2.4 GHz band.
It doesn’t travel very far and is easily absorbed by water (which is what we’re mainly composed of).

WiFi is a big disruptor of biological processes and is a health hazard.

A simple way to remove the WiFi health hazards is to use wired Ethernet & disable wireless on your laptop and your WiFi router.

This list of WLAN channels is the set of legally allowed wireless local area network channels using IEEE 802.11 protocols, mostly sold under the trademark Wi-Fi.

The 802.11 workgroup currently documents use in five distinct frequency ranges: 2.4 GHz, 3.6 GHz, 4.9 GHz, 5 GHz, and 5.9 GHz bands.

First things to add –

  1. Turn off your DECT cordless phone base unit off
  2. Sleep earthed – use an earthed bedsheet connected to earth for natural balance for your body

It is estimated that 3% of the population have symptoms – tinnitus, hot ear, headaches, brain fog, heart arrhythmia, digestive problems which can be releived by reducing electrosmog.
